LAS SOMBRAS is a wonderful destination for travelers wishing to see the wonders of the desert whilst enjoying life in a small and unique town.
Designed as a quiet sanctuary in downtown Presidio, the hidden gem of the Big Bend, Las Sombras is made up of 2 private suites with separate stand-alone spaces in a revived desert garden. The carefully curated spaces showcase artworks, poetry, out-of-print books, board games, luxurious fabrics and soft designs.
During the day, enjoy the multitude of birds singing in the surrounding trees. Cool off in your private cowboy pool or spend the afternoon reading under the large mesquite tree. In the evening, enjoy the vibrant sunsets before losing yourself in the milky way. Take advantage of a large outdoor cooking and grilling area. Remember, the entire Big Bend region is a Dark Sky Haven!
Las Sombras was built from the ground up and is the perfect place for couples, friends, or solo travelers yearning for a quiet and artful retreat. Thus, this property is not suitable for children or pets.
Each of the two accommodations is nestled in a vintage restored trailer, Las Sombras Suite 47 is an Airstream from 1947, and Las Sombras Suite 54 is a Mobiliner Hicks from 1954. At this time, you will have the entire property to yourself, as Las Sombras 47, the second trailer, is not being rented and awaits remodeling. Each trailer opens onto the shared courtyard and grounds, and each has its own outdoor kitchen, shaded dining area, private bathroom within the double bathhouse, and a private entrance to the property.
LAS SOMBRAS Suite 54 is a vintage 1954 Mobiliner Hicks Travel Trailer entirely remodeled and rebuilt as a tasteful desert town retreat. To create a more aery and ample living space on the inside, the bathroom and kitchen have been removed from the trailer. For a more immersive experience of the desert way of life, we created an outdoor cooking and dining area, and built a separate bath house in the garden.
INSIDE THE SUITE
The bedroom has a queen size bed with a luxurious memory foam mattress, big fluffy pillows, a closet with hangers and shelves, 2 small bedside tables and reading lights. Soft linens are provided for the bed as well as pillows, extra throws and comforter, so that you can travel light and be cosy.
The living area features a retro design couch and a large armchair and foot rest. A custom-made wooden bar hosts a small colorful retro fridge and a coffee station for that morning kick (Keurig).
A mini-split AC unit cools off the trailer during these hot desert days and doubles as a heater for cooler weather.
A wonderful selection of rare and out-of-print books about the desert, reading lights, board games, a bluetooth speaker and beautiful arts and crafts from Mexico, antique shops and local artists give Las Sombras Suite 54 its unique and colorful flair.
YOUR PRIVATE OUTDOOR SPACE
Enjoy a lazy day out on the property, reading a book under the shade of the mesquite tree or cool off in your own 7ft-wide cowboy pool.
A few steps away from the trailer sits a brand new bathhouse with a custom Italian rain shower, a vintage double enamel sink, an antique mirror, and a commode. Organic cotton towels and organic shower products are provided for your comfort.
The outdoor kitchen area sits under a large shade structure and is equipped with a concrete dining table and chairs, a concrete prep area, a large vintage enamel sink, a custom-made wood fire grill and a gas grill. To enjoy a night of cooking under the Milky Way, you will simply have to bring your own charcoal or fire wood. We highly recommend picking up groceries to fully take advantage of the remote setting, outdoor kitchen and wood fire grill.
The entire property is fenced off so that you can enjoy total privacy on the grounds. A designated parking area awaits outside the property, so you don’t have to search for a spot nearby.

VISITING BIG BEND
Presidio and the entire Big Bend Area are Dark Sky Friendly and the 4th darkest sky in the world! This is why we get such great views of the Milky Way at night. Please help us keep it that way by keeping lights to a minimum at night! We also ask travelers to be mindful of noise for our neighbors, quiet time starts at 9pm.
