This light-filled apartment is ideal for couples, writers and creatives looking for a relaxed, characterful place to stay.
Once an artist’s working studio, the space still carries traces of its creative past, including original paint splotches on the floor.
The apartment sits above a family home, so you may hear the sounds of everyday life below. The property enjoys an established garden, and easy access to, and views of the Riwaka Estuary.
The Artist’s Retreat is a self-contained apartment with four distinct areas:
- Large bedroom with a comfortable queen bed
- Open kitchen / dining / lounge, suitable for cooking, reading, writing and unwinding.
- Small bathroom, clean and functional
- Entrance hallway and landing
The kitchen/lounge was formerly my mother’s art workspace, and we’ve chosen to preserve its character rather than erase it. The floors show paint marks from years of creative use. So while not hotel-level polished, the space is clean, cared for and intentionally authentic.
The studio is the entire second storey of a lived-in family home, and while it is private and self-contained, guests may hear everyday household sounds at times. The pump for the property's water source is near the apartment - you will hear this when a tap is turned on, but again, it is a background sound.
Guests have sole use of the upstairs storey, with a separate entrance.
Outside, you are welcome to wander the property's garden, or sit on the porch to watch the world passing by at any time of the day. It's a particularly great spot at the end of the day with a G&T in hand!
