This is the Berry college mill. Constructed in 1930, the wooden overshot waterwheel, considered one of the largest in the world at 42 feet in diameter, was constructed by student workers. The Old Mill is operated on special occasions, such as Mountain Day. When available, the Oak Hill Gift Shop sells cornmeal ground at the Old Mill.

“What an excellent little place to stay, we loved the quiet, peaceful little getaway and we will be back. Enjoyed the hot tub, the cabin is perfect clean and perfect for two and to bring our grand kids. The host was easy to contact and the surrounding area was beautiful to adventure out to see, parkers and waterfalls. If you make it into Fort Payne a must eat pale is Meal and Market what a treat ! Can’t wait to come back to see y’all again ! ”

“My wife and I came up for a long weekend, found this cabin online, and it was perfect for our plans. We spent a rainy morning inside reading, then headed out to see the park and the town of Mentone. Repeat for 2 more days, except without the rain. Being able to fix breakfast in the cabin was a real timesaver for us. We also found the place to be super clean with many thoughtful items like a few K-cups and a thermostat remote that we took upstairs with us at night.”

“I don't take the time to do reviews but pound for pound and dollar for dollar this was the best vacation rental I've ever enjoyed and I've done a lot of them over the years. Everything was nails perfection from the agent communication to the cool cabin but filled with modern amenities including the kitchen and televisions/working wifi. Seriously. And the spot was close to town but private down a gravel driveway removed from the world. I could live there. ”

“The cabin has been recently updated and was nice inside and out. It was very comfortable inside and had everything we needed. We had a very quiet and relaxing stay. We went hiking every day during our weeklong stay. The back entrance to DeSoto State Park was just 0.5 miles away. We also appreciated the good WiFi service. Walmart and several good restaurant choices were 15 to 20 minutes away. Highly recommended! We would definitely go back!”
