The Space:

Tranquil Lake Retreat has a story - it was once the Lake Ōkareka General Store, converted into a spacious two-storey home that has kept its generous proportions. With two living rooms, five bedrooms and three outdoor patios, there's room to spread out, so it's a natural fit for two or three families, a group of friends or a big family get-together. And the lake is just a short walk away.

Upstairs is the heart of the home: an open-plan lounge with a leather suite, a freestanding log burner and big windows framing the lake and hills, opening onto the deck. The kitchen is built for a crowd - a large freestanding cooker, stone benchtops, a dishwasher, a coffee machine and an island with breakfast-bar seating - and the dining table seats the whole group. Downstairs is a second living room with a large sofa, a fireplace and a TV, opening to the lower patio.



- OUTDOOR AREA -

Three separate patios, with the main deck home to a large spa pool and an outdoor dining setting. The flat, fully fenced section - rare in this steep, bush-clad area - has ample off-street parking, with room to leave a boat or trailer. There's firewood on hand for the log burner.

Guest Access:

Guests have exclusive use of the whole property - all five bedrooms, the bathrooms, both living rooms, the kitchen and dining, and all three patios including the deck with the spa pool. The Neighborhood:

Lake Ōkareka is one of Rotorua's loveliest small lake settlements - a quiet, friendly community wrapped in native bush, just over the hill from the city. The home sits just behind the local fire station, moments from the lake, where you can swim, kayak, paddleboard or launch a small boat from the reserve. A boardwalk winds along the lake's wetland edge and walking tracks lead into the surrounding Ōkataina forest. You're also right among Rotorua's best-loved spots: the Blue and Green Lakes are just up the road, the Redwoods Whakarewarewa Forest is a short drive, and the historic Buried Village of Te Wairoa is nearby - all while being about 15 minutes from town.



Getting Around:

A car is recommended here - Lake Ōkareka is a settlement rather than a town, so you'll want your own transport. The lake itself is a short walk from the door. By car, the Blue and Green Lakes are about 3 minutes away, the Buried Village around 7, the Redwoods about 11, and central Rotorua - with its supermarkets, restaurants and geothermal attractions - roughly 15. Rotorua Airport is about 16 minutes on the far side of the city.

A few things worth knowing: this is a former general store converted into a spacious two-storey home, set over two levels with two living areas. The main deck has the spa pool, and there's a log burner upstairs (with firewood on hand) plus heat pumps throughout.
