Buffet was not great. Different morning buffet for ‘gold members’ seemed odd. Nowhere on-site to get snacks, suntan lotion, etc, except for shop that is not affiliated with hotel and outrageously overpriced. I went to the Solaris next door to buy snacks. Starbucks always seemed to be closed. Royal Solaris much better than Solaris Lighthouse

Overpriced for bland food. Better to book yourself into a nice hotel and go out for meals to the main square. Not enough management oversight at the pool areas.

Room was clean, very hard mattress with soft squishy pillows. Great staff, buffet not as good as previous visits when it was the Barcelo. Mexican and Italian restaurants were very good.

Christmas 2025 was a great day. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The room is always clean, but they need to improve the lighting in the bathrooms and the water pressure wasn’t that great. I would give the food at the lunch and dinner buffet at three star. It was just OK. Same with breakfast. The best thing about this hotel is the staff. They’re awesome.

Great Staff, Horrible Food All staff that we encountered was exceptional. They were all very friendly, kind and very attentive. On the other hand this hotel desperately needs a new cook or new menu. The food was a horror. None of it was good, it had no taste or it tasted bad. They have a breakfast, lunch, dinner buffet and I think their problem is they try too hard. Simple good food goes a long way. We made reservations for their restaurants. The Italian restaurant served bread at the beginning. Sure I thought they can’t get it wrong, I was wrong! The bread was stale, cold, tasteless. The food again was a disappointment. It a great hotel but they need to do better with the food to attract guests to come back. They also have a very cool concept, the light house where they have a 360 view with a bar. The problem is they have a sushi restaurant on the bottom floor and the light house smells like dead fish. There needs to be many changes to this establishment.

Room was filthy, , hair and dirt on mattress under cover, when pulled apart and asked to be cleaned, room was still dirty as well as old contact lenses on the floor. fridge did not work, a/c did not work. Paid for an upgrade and was stuck in the back building facing a wall, when asked to change rooms i was told it would not be possible without paying $75USD per night. Legs Got eaten alive by something in the bedding. Bars and buffet, and al la carte food options lacking, service was slow. Floors were slippery on the stairs and i fell my first night quite terribly. Would not recommend to anyone

Our room was ok. The food in the cafeteria restaurant was very good - nice selection. The sit-down Mexican restaurant was very disappointing. It was bland and seemed like it came from a steam table.

Property was very Beautiful. However, there was definitely a miss with a few things. Like how they cleaned the room, or lack... Having to ask numerous times for face towels. And, the regular towels need to be replaced, they felt like sand paper. Breakfast was good. Dinner in the dining room with several options was good but the Italian Restaurant and the Mexican Restaurant was lacking... The Japanese Sushi was good. Overall, I would give it between 3.5 to 4 stars.

We were very happy with this resort. The snack bar cook was great, the lobby bar tender was on point with the drinks. Pools were awesome and the entertainment was great. The cleaning crew was amazing, great service

It’s a beautiful resort. However, we paid for ocean view and got pool view, when we tried to tell them, they were no help, until I complained with Expedia. They also charge extra fees and taxes not listed by Expedia and you’re obligated to pay it when you check in. Not cool.

Our room was clean and fine. The bartenders at the pool bar not so friendly, the pool waiters were great. Lacking entertainment around the pools and getting people to engage so my opinion more organization for pool area in service and entertainment. Overall my stay was fine but not a place I would go back to.

Our room was cleaned very well everyday and water bottles replaced everyday in the fridge. All staff were very courteous and friendly. Entertainment like the Mexican Fiesta night and the candle light violin and cielo performance were great. The property gardens were well kept and beautiful. pools were also very clean. Some updates are needed on this older property but it appears they are getting to them.

The room was great - nice big bathroom and shower. The resort is nice and the infinity pool is great as well. If recognizing staff that go above and beyond - Martha every morning in the breakfast buffet is a ray of sunshine. Gonna miss her happy smile! Now for the not so positives… other than breakfast which was always good and consistent- the food really is not that great. I don’t really care about the food that much when at a resort - you can always find something but here I was worried about certain foods - mostly meat. Out of our group of 14, 3 of us including myself got very ill for 1-2 days. Speaking for myself I’m pretty sure it was my dinner at the buffet. And there’s a beautiful big lobby bar with tons of seating and a stage - my suggestion would be to have a dj dance party and get people up having some fun in the evening… This is my 4th year in SJD in this area and the GR Solaris Lighthouse unfortunately is not on my list of hotels I would ever go back to.

The rooms were ok, however we had to request new towels/wash cloths everyday. Also, each time we attempted to make reservations for the restaurants that weren't ncluded with the all inclusive, they were always booked.

Pros: Location, is walking distance from shops restaurants and plazas. Cleanliness of resort/room. Beach, easy beach access. Cons: Resort food was sub par, worst of all the all-inclusive resorts I have stayed in. We opted to eat out at restaurants which kinda defeats the purpose of choosing an all-inclusive resort. Staff attentiveness, while there was plenty of staff that was helpful and attentive we encountered a few that were not. For instance, I requested a coffee from our server at the dinner buffet and he responded saying that they didn’t have any. Shortly after we saw him taking coffee to another table. Room service, has a $100 pesos charge. Again, I’ve stayed in multiple all-inclusive resorts and this was new to me. Drinks, I know all-inclusive resorts are known to water down alcoholic drinks but this place I felt outdid the others. To summarize, I don’t see myself staying there again. There were less expensive options that I am sure would have matched my experience at the Solaris Lighthouse.
