This is a hotel with character. Start with a historic structure and updates that retain the historic character but make things functional. I really liked the laid back vibe of the place, from the 60's & 70's music playing in the lobby to the retention of much original wood throughout. There are collections of old typewriters, adding machines, books and other items that enhance the theme.
I stayed in a hostel room which was clean with a good mattress and bedding. The bath across the hall was also clean and functional with fixtures updated to the present.
This is not the Ritz; there is for example, no air conditioning, but there are a number of fans and the highs in Silverton (9,300') were manageable in August.
As a guest, I had access to a commercial type kitchen, much refrigeration space and free coffee or tea or hot chocolate.
The "hang around" spaces are pleasant. The lobby mentioned above and the 3rd floor deck are great places to read, chat or just hang out. From the deck, you get a view of much of the town and the mountains beyond.
