South Beach | 4 Bedrooms/3 Baths | Two Blocks to Beach and Downtown


This recently renovated two-story, 4-bedroom, 2.5 bathroom home offers family and friends a great vacation getaway. It's located at the center of the best parts of South Haven: Just 2 blocks to South Beach, 3 blocks to town and a short walk to Kids Corner Park. The Van Buren State Park trail begins on Maple, literally outside our front door.


As you enter, the welcoming, enclosed heated/cooled porch provides a quiet space for reading, morning coffee or just watching the day go by.


Main Floor

The main floor features a family space with TV (with cable), fireplace, games and space to gather along with a dining area that has room for everyone. There is a queen-sized pullout sofa in the living room.


Also, on the main floor is a beautiful, fully stocked, up-to-date kitchen with built-in oven, 5-burner gas stove, microwave, dishwasher, large refrigerator, and a breakfast bar. You don't have to bring any utensils to the kitchen…we love to cook, and you will find everything you need for your stay. There is a coffee bar with drip and pod coffee makers and a kettle for hot water. The pantry is usually stocked with tea and coffee (along with a few other seasonal surprises)


The main floor primary bedroom and attached bath offer privacy, a bit away from the main part of the house. There you will find a great place to read, watch TV or just relax.


There is also a half bath/laundry with stackable full-sized washer/dryer



Outside

Enjoy a meal outside on the deck with an umbrella table and chairs. The large fenced-in backyard offers a large fire pit with seating, deck, patio, comfy hammock and a place for kids to play. There is a large gas grill and a charcoal grill. In the shed there are bikes (adult and kid), beach chairs, beach toys and a wagon to take to the beach.

Head upstairs, past the original stain glass window, and find 3 large bedrooms with ample closet space:
Bedroom 1: Queen bed
Bedroom 2: Full bed and walk-in closet
Bedroom 3: Provides a twin/twin trundle bed and a portable crib stored in the walk-in closet for your convenience.
Common Space: Sleeper Sofa

The large bathroom has been fully renovated with two sinks and bathtub/shower plus plenty of space to store your personal items.

Wonderful stay!

Idle Hour is beautiful and has everything needed for a comfortable get-away. The location is close to all interest points and is in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood. We had a lovely time in South Haven, and this home made it perfect. One most important detail- the beds are extremely comforable!

Loved the Idle Hour

We are long time visitors to South Haven. We have always stayed on North Beach. We decided to venture out to the "southside" and we fell in love! The house is a short walk to the beach as well as town. This owner has so many tiny details that make the stay comfortable from every small appliance you can imagine to labeled light switches, wagon, sand toys, and a functioning firepit. We are now south side converts! :)

Little getaway

We loved the location. It was an easy walk to the beach, playground and into town. The house is beautifully decorated and updated. Plenty of space for our little family and the outdoor space was lovely too. The only downside that we had was that the floors upstairs were very very loud which woke up our son the first couple of nights there. But that was really our only complaint. If we needed something, we just texted the help number and responses were extremely quick.

Perfect location, disappointed with cleanliness

This property was a perfect location - an easy walk to South Beach with kids, an easy walk into town, and within a short drive to anywhere we wanted to go. The kitchen, master bedroom and bathrooms are all newly updated and very nice. Our main concern was the level of cleanliness of the property. There was heavy dust caked on ceiling fans to the point we couldn't use them, dust on furniture, under furniture, dusty cobwebs hanging from the ceiling upstairs and one of the bedrooms had a musty smell. There was also a big ant problem in the kitchen and master bedroom/bathroom - ants crawling on suitcase, nightstand, shower, countertop etc. We reached out to the property manager about the ants when we noticed them and they were quick to respond to bring ant traps. They did enter the rental to place ant traps without notifying us they were planning to do so or when. They also booked a pest control company to spray the outside of the house and that person arrived when we had just gotten back from the beach and had all of our beach stuff in the lawn. We quickly had to get everything off the yard, deck, and away from the house because of him spraying. Again, there was no communication this was taking place otherwise we would have planned around this pest control appointment. After some back and forth about the complaint of the rental being so dusty and the ant problem, we were refunded less than half of our cleaning fee.

Family vacation

Lots of fun. Close to beach, town, kids Corner. Did a Lot of bike riding down to state park and Kal-Haven trail. Kitchen was well stock except no dish clothes or dish towels?? Overall the house was clean but cobwebs along baseboards. You can tell it is a rental from the outside as yard was weedy. Back yard has a 2-3 foot strip along back fence and along garage that was all over grown weeds. Overall I would rent it again so nothing drastically wrong. Like I said, we had fun.

Beautiful Spot

Loved everything about Idle Hour. Perfect location for a short walk to beautiful South Beach and into town. We didn’t have to use the car the entire long weekend The cottage is well-stocked with everything we needed. Updated bathrooms and kitchen are very nice. We took the lower level bedroom with en-suite bathroom. Adult kids took upstairs. The beds and linens were comfortable. Everything was clean. The backyard fire pit is a plus. We used it one night. This was our first trip to South Haven and Idle Hour cottage but it won’t be our last

Great stay in beautiful South Haven

The house was very well stocked and great for families. We cooked or grilled every night and really enjoyed the property. We also loved the short walk to the beach and the wagon and beach chairs. Remember to bring your own beach towels, but otherwise everything is provided.

Thought of everything...

All you need for a great stay is there. We generally leave a vacation rental wondering why a particular item(s) wasn't included - not at Idle Hour. From laundry detergent to bikes to beach wagons to ingredients for S'mores, it's all included. The property was also very clean and well maintained. Nice!!!

This property had it all.... amazing location, plenty of space for large families, every possible amenity needed inside and out to enjoy a comfortable, relaxing and fun lake vacation. Family Vacatation

Idle Hour was perfect for our family! We walked to the beach for sunsets and to swim, walked to town, rode our bikes and had a wonderful time! The house had everything we needed. We used the wagon, beach chairs, and a bicycle that came with the house - those were great to have available to us for use. The house had plenty of room for our family. We would love to come back to South Haven and stay at Idle Hour again. Thank you!

Awesome location, great house, very accommodating!

The location of this house is great! We could walk to South Beach, downtown restaurants, and Kids Corner park. The house is great too, just like the pictures, even more spacious too. The backyard is fun and the s’mores supplies provided is very kind! Plenty of games and kitchen items also provided. Great vacation!!
