This property is new construction, extremely clean and well maintained. I was delighted to see the same antique dresser (Virginia Maple Leaf) in the 2nd bedroom that my father used in his youth and which I continue to use today. The master bedroom bed was very comfortable as were the bed linens. The kitchen was well equipped for our pseudo gourmet cooking. The gas fireplace makes the living room so warm (hot, really) that, even in midwinter, it becomes clothing-optional. Speaking of which..the outdoor hot tub, while private from neighbors, is visible form the road. And the road, which does fall into the categoary of "country road," goes directly into the town of Stanley (convieient for a grocery store run) just a mile or two away so there is some traffic, especially during the day. I selected Black Bear Lodge primarily for its views rather than one of the two other slightly smaller properties further up the hill which are more tucked into the woods (same owners). In hindsight, and especially considering that in the winter, with no leaves on the trees, everyone has mountain views, I might have chosen one of the other properties simply for more of a natural/secluded experience. That said, I highly recommend this rental. The views are some of the very best in the state! Only complaint (and this very specific and goes for any vaca rental anywhere, but seems more appropriate in VA wine country), is better red wine specific glasswear..though I did appreciate that there were glass rather than plastic white wine glasses. Cheers!
