Cottage a Thornhill

“The cottage was cosy and had everything we needed. A minor niggle, but it was a bit cluttered with cushions and throws in the sitting room - the throws just slid off the leather sofas and the cushions were too big and too many, so were surplus to requirements. The location suited us very well, with a host of lovely walks and places to visit nearby. We had a wonderful break and can recommend!”

“I found this property when we had to move out earlier than planed for renovation works to our house. On arrival we were all stunned at the beauty on the gardens , the wild life, the fact we appear to be the only guests. Staff were amazing as i had 1 night were we had no where to staff, and staff were able to accommodate us. If you are looking for peace tranquillity i would highly recommend this place. “This is a fantastic cottage in an adorable village. It has rolling hills, a burn and lots of sheep! The cottage itself was quite large and was fit for our family of 6, including adult children and their spouses. It was clean, decorated well and rather comfortable. There are amenities within walking distance such as a pub, museum, etc. We wished we had stayed longer and we'll definitely return!”

“Warm and cozy sleeping with the shutters and curtains drawn. Respect the house, switch on the pump if you light the fire, and yes I loved the wood smoke smells, it is mostly round the fire, if the fire is only embers you can switch off the pump, it's circulating the hot water from the fire, I was able to see local interests and the wonderful fresh air, excellent countryside. The ruin of Carmicheal House makes me wonder at its one time beauty, and it's just a short walk to from the cottage,...

“Having stayed in Wanlockhead for a week at the end of June 2021, this property seemed like an ideal overnight stay during a house move from the the South Coast to Aberdeen. Within easy distance of the M74 and very peaceful. Loved the bold décor. Excellent nights rest , the downstairs bed was very comfortable and the property spotlessly clean.”

The cottage itself is very charming and supremely cozy (if you can accept interior design that not bothered in the slightest by the dernier cri); the vast Carmichael property, on which it is located, with its paddocks, forests, mystical ruins and a dog cemetery holds enough beauty and enough secrets to uncover for weeks, and everyone we came in contact with was very friendly. Highly recommended, hope to be coming back at some point. ”
