We had a wonderful two night stay at hotel california. We were late to check in, however was seamless for us after hours to speak to staff and get the run down, checked into the room just as the sun was setting over the vineyards. A stunning place to stay, easily located with everything you need within 10 min drive. We hired bikes from SA E Bikes and got them dropped to the property, we rode around the local wineries all day and ended our day back here to do a tasting.

Return visit to this hidden gem

A wonderful place to stay. We came in early 2020 and haven't managed to return until late 2024. Little has changed: no wear and tear, but the same stunning view and a magnificently appointed bedroom and bathroom. Perfect for exploring the Southern Vales, or for a short get-away from Adelaide.

Brilliant!

Most comfortable bed of all the hotels I've ever stayed in. Luxe rooms and interesting building. Personal and friendly service. Wine tasting after we checked-in. What more could you want! Location is a few minutes out of McLaren Vale, but uber and taxis are readily available.

AMAZING WINE COUNTRY STAY

This small hotel is a genius product developed by the couple who own Inkwell wines and live nearby. The rooms and hallways and cellar door are built out of shipping containers and a lot of effort went into making the accommodations truly 5 star. They are also strongly committed to being environmentaly conscious. The location is quiet and charming with amazing views. They are only 5 mins from the center of Mclaren Vale with plenty of restaurant options and stores. They are also only 10 mins away from Maslin beach , one of the most beautiful beaches you will ever visit. A terrific choice for visiting the nearby wine country 🎉🎉🎉

Pick another spot- owners were not honest. After a discussion with the managers/owners onsite they told Expedia the manager/owner-wasn’t there to help and refused a refund even though I just spoke to them in person. Americans owners that just want to make a quick buck. Stay away.

winery woes....

I was in the area for work and thought this place would be good. Unfortunately, my colleague had a bereavement and could not come. I realise a refund was impossible of course ... the stay was imminent - but did think that if there was a mutually convenient time - something might be possible... I have done this with illness and this was the passing of a son... but I also paid for the breakfast for both rooms ... and even that was charged and not consumed! and apparently on arrival ... was advised there have been a lot of unfortunate 'passings' of young people in SA of late..... maybe I am being to sensitive or harsh ... but cannot recommend or return

A truly amazing place to stay for independent adult travellers. It's not far from Port Willunga, McLaren Vale and road connections, but it is comparatively remote. You have to be self-sufficient as the staff are not on site most of the time. Expect to drive for shops, restaurants etc - and as there are no cooking facilities, you need to do that, or have meals delivered - but that is the charm. To see wallabies lolloping by at dusk or dawn, honey-eaters busy among the flowers, the horizon of trees by moonlight, that was marvellous. There is no traffic noise and you can see the stars. The breakfast is (more than) ample. The wine was excellent, sipped on the terrace or (true hedonism this) in the bath while looking out over the vineyards in the twilight. There is a strong effort to be eco friendly and organic which chimed with our values. Would we return? Like a shot. It is not suitable for families with children but for people like us, a retired couple savouring an oasis of peace, quiet, privacy and a glass of wine, it was nigh perfect.

The room was fantastic down to the complimentary snacks and amenities. We just needed one night stay and it was possible where a lot of Airbnb require 2 to three minimum nights in McLaren Vale.

Amazing Location! Outstanding

Simply amazing. Loved it. Outstanding views across the winery (with the autumn colors). Bath was great too. Super-comfy bed. And a selection of excellent wines. What more could you want? Just perfect.

The wines at Inkwell are really enjoyable. The staff are down to earth, friendly, and helpful. They even have a wine dog named Daisy. The views from the room are breathtaking. We really enjoyed our morning coffee on the deck. It's very quiet and peaceful. The amenities are high quality and comfortable. The only complaint I have, and it's very minor and probably specific to me is that the shower water pressure is really light. I have super thick hair and it was almost impossible to get my hair rinsed.

Unique stay in this beautiful accommodation . Rooms and styling are outstanding . Sunset over the vineyards is magical! Beds are incredibly comfortable and the bath is fantastic. We would thoroughly recommend staying here and there is nothing else like it anywhere near. Included breakfast not really in keeping with the high standard and low footprint ethics of the hotel. Less food but more local offerings with less packaging would be an improvement .
