The Tarbet Stay Experience - Wonderful Views
The hotel is facinating, wonderful views, decor a little dated. Outside is a little untidy. Inside it is amazing, a gothic intrigue! All the Reception Staff were brilliant & couldn't do enough for us! Unfotunately the gentleman in charge of the restaurant & bar was not polite or accommodating. We had a ferry to catch & a 3 hour drive and had discussed with the lovely receptionist, plans to have an early breakfast. The gentleman would not acknowledge her request & physically leant over her, grabbed the telephone, continued to make a call, ignoring both us and his colleague. This is an experience I have had where some members of a team cannot cope with current inclusive, working, practices The Receptioninst and her colleagues were very apologetic & kind. Her requests were unacknowledged and so were we. The dinner was average, the breakfast better, later than agreed & the receptionist tried hard to sort things out for us. The other staff in the restaurant were very nice and friendly and couldn't do enough for us. It can be seen that this person is a factor who is affecting the whole experience, not just for us but for the coach load of visitors there at the same time. Going forward I would return to the hotel of course, the bedrooms were clean & wonderful. But if the coalition between the present Restaurant/Bar manager & staff working along side him, doesn't improve, it would be a regretable experience, an obvious disrespectful, discontect, such a shame.

Very friendly staff, we had our 4 legged fur ball with us - every member of staff gave him a great lots of fuss (and treats) its not often you stay somewhere that all the satff are friendly. Room was clean and modern, showers hot. Only negative and its a peronal one was the pillows dispite having 2 theh were on the thin soft side

Hotel has shut down for the winter but still letting rooms. It's very clean and nice but they've turned the heating off in the rooms and there is no hot water. Never been so cold, fortunately we were only only passing through. Staff very helpful with our late arrival.

Mérite un grand détour, loin de cet Hôtel.
Cet hôtel est vieux et n'est pas entretenu. le personnel fais ce qu'il peux dans un désordre stressant. la chambre avec des traces de moisi au mur et la porte de salle de bain qui se délamine n'inspire pas confiance. les 150€ pour une nuit sont exagerer

Quite frankly, I am disgusted by the extremely low standards for cleanliness in this hotel. Highly disappointed at the high cost paid for an atrocious space. Following initial check in, I asked to be moved to another room from the one provided as it was clearly not cleaned since the previous guests left. Our new room was better, but later noticed it to be very dirty and cold. The room is so cold that there is a space heater next to the bed. The hotel/hotel owners are obviously aware the temperature is an issue for there to be a space heater provided. There is mold growing around the windows and behind the door in the bathroom. Dust on the baseboards and door casings. Dust on the doors themselves. Cobwebs on the the ceiling. The shower was dirty which we did not notice until using it and found pubic hairs from previous guests. Pubic hair on the toilet. Pubic hair on the bedside table. The toilet leaked from the base. I had to place a towel around it to collect the leaking water. There are dust bunnies hanging off of the lamp between the bed and the base of the lamp is caked in dust and rust. There was a used mug with a dirty stir spoon present in the room. The television has only 3 channels and is blurry. The television remote looks like it hasn’t been cleaned. There is garbage behind the sink. The carpet is absolutely filthy. There is no phone. There is an extremely bright blue light on the wall that illuminates intermittently throughout the night disturbing our sleep.

Quand on passe par le site de réservation Hotels.com, l'hôtel vous donne la chambre la plus sale, la plus laide et la plus mal placée. Nous étions dans une chambre très sale avec des excréments de mouches partout sur les murs, la moquette n'a pas vu l'aspirateur depuis quelques années et encore moins de machine à laver la moquette, les murs sont couverts de tâches douteuses et ne parlons pas des odeurs dans la chambre, les couloirs, la salle de restaurant. La vaisselle n'est pas propre, l'ascenseur en panne depuis au moins 4 ans, des murs moisis, bref ce lieu est un cauchemar. Nous n'avons pas fermé l'oeil à cause de la tuyauterie qui a fait du bruit toute la nuit. Ne parlons pas du petit-déjeuner à 10 livres par personne qui laissait franchement à désirer. Si vous devez séjourner là-bas prenez une chambre à 200 livres et peut-être aurez vous la chance d'avoir la vue sur le lac sinon vous aurez, comme nous, vu sur le parking et le délabrement de l'arrière cours.

Floor in the room was incredibly creaky, I’m all for old buildings but you couldn’t move without a creak. Walls are paper thin so you can hear what next doors watching on tv and when they turn it on at 5am wasn’t what I needed! The breakfast was just…. Disappointing to put it politely! It’s a self serve breakfast, greasy, Luke warm food. No toast unless you ask even then it comes black. I would avoid and won’t be back again

The hotel is very conveniently situated at a road junction. Check in was easy, room was clean and tidy. Dinner was good, barman was very helpful and knowledgeable about his beers and whiskies. Unfortunately my room was right next to a busy road, which did interrupt sleep a bit. All staff were helpful and friendly. Parking good.

The hotel was in transition from Bespoke to another owner and lots of work will be needed to bring the hotel up to standard, requests on booking were not applied, though the computer booking system was down as a result of the changeover. Staff friendly, location good. Hotel cleanliness poor carpets in need of thorough cleaning, bedding and bathroom good.

Great stay
Great location. Had noted previous reviews but have to say the hotel was lovely. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Apart from one older short haired waiter/barman who clearly loves pointing out the bar staff non existent errors. However my husband and myself found his superiority complex amusing. Looking forward to visiting again.

Couple night away
Our stay was perfect. The staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel although dated was spotlessly clean. We had a three course meal and breakfast included and all we paid was £110, which is unbelievably amazing value for money!

No food at the inn
Arrived after a 9 hour drive to find the hotel had no food service. Totally unacceptable. They have our contact details and could have let us know! Noisy room next to a busy road. Charged extra £5 for parking.

It’s a shame a beautiful building has been left in such a state of disrepair. The downstairs bar / reception area is as good as it gets. The journey to our room was an experience. Lift out of order, stained carpets, smelly corridors, walls in dire need of some fresh paint. We walked past a room that didn’t even have a door handle on it. Onto the room it was a bit dirty, with stains still on the toilet & sink. Noticeable stains on the carpet also. Bed was comfortable, however the above combined, id rather sleep in the car.

Convenient but the decor is looking tired.
Stop over on our way back home after a tour of Scotland. Initial view of hotel is impressive and it is situated convenient on the A82. The decor is looking tired especially are the corridors near yo our room. The food was not cooked by a chef who was proud of his job.

Lovely building, disappointing hotel
This hotel is in a good location and looks great from the outside but behind the lovely exterior things go downhill. First shock is that you are charged £5 per night to park when you have already paid for the hotel. This is not a city centre hotel where it might be expected and it seems to be a major complaint from other travellers. Checking in was straightfoward and then it's off to the room. The lift was broken (another long standing problem it seems) so then we had to lug big bags up two flights of steps and along corridors (which look like they have not seen a coat of paint for a long time). The room was satisfactory apart from the bathroom door being locked! On the night we were there the hotel had a very loud singer belting out songs in the bar/lounge - so loud it was impossible to find anywhere downstairs to sit for a quiet drink. Breakfast was ok although there's only 1 toast making machine so you have to queue for ages to make your own toast. Given that reviews going back a long time mention the parking and lifts it seems that the hotel owners / manager do not consider that customer comments matter and are willing to let the hotel rack up negative comments. Very disappointing. Would I stay again - no.

No loo roll! Very very tired decor
The staff were very nice and tried their best to help when we arrived. But much later in the room we discovered there was no loo roll! The hotel is enormous and could be very nice but hadnt been painted or decorated since the 70s it seems and the carpets were stained and tired everywhere. Good breakfast, clean sheets and comfy bed.

We have stayed in this property happily numerous times this stay we were so disappointed it was terrible. The room was tiny and cramped, the carpets were filthy and sticky it was so noisy you couldn’t sleep, the bar was closed at lunchtime so no food, in the evening there was no entertainment (there always was before), there was some customers who were extremely drunk, rude, loud, shouting and swearing and the you staff didn’t know what to do. There is now a charge for parking your car.

Das Zimmer „mit Seeblick“ (man musste schon den Hals recken, um einen Zipfel vom See zu sehen) mit Mini Dusche/WC war renoviert und in Ordnung. Das Hotel Treppenhaus innen und außen war völlig heruntergekommen und verdreckt. Der Blick in die Küche durch eine offen stehende Hintertür hat uns vom Essen abgehalten.

The room was not what i expected from the advert. The toom was dirty, very small and had rippes curtains. There was a half full loo roll, no shower or hand wash. The tv waa abismil. Then, the live band played right beneath my room for hours. The grounds readable a war zone.

Whole hotel was fairly scruffy. Room door didn't seem to lock properly, room had unsightly stains on the carpet and needed a good touching up overall, only three working TV channels. Check-in was fine. Breakfast service was disorganised and poorly communicated. Limited parking spaces which cost £5 a night to use. It is in a scenic area with interesting surroundings however.
