Winding Down - A Retreat on the "Quiet Side"

  • August & September dates still available! Winding Down is the perfect place to enjoy the quiet side of DC. We are walking distance from the North Bay Nature Preserve & the shores of North Bay. This is the ideal location for fall & winter activities. We are surrounded by the unspoiled beauty of a cedar forest that provides a needed respite.
    Enjoy cross country skiing OR snowshoeing in the trails nearby. Come in from the cold to build a cozy fire & enjoy a glass of wine.

    The space:
    Enjoy our Sweet Escape! This newer, open concept house has a separate master bedroom suite, guest room and loft. Our spacious kitchen and great room are perfect for any family to relax, unwind, and reconnect with each other.

    We adhere to the Door County Commitment to Cleanliness and Safety by cleaning and disinfecting according to CDC guidelines.

    Guest access:
    Guests have access to the entire house. During the Summer we provide 2 kayaks and 4 beach cruisier bicycles. During the Winter we provide 4 pairs of snowshoes.

    Other things to note:
    Pet fee $100/stay. All pets must be indicated when making the reservation.

We had a wonderful stay in Door County! Our hosts thought of everything we could need including care for our Westies. Very dog friendly! Close to the areas we love: Bailey’s Harbor, Sister Bay, Ephraim and Fish Creek. Access to the water is close and all activities within 15 minutes or less driving. Home was welcoming, spacious but cozy. We will definitely be back! Slept incredibly soundly!

We stayed at the house with our dog, and we were very pleased with our stay! House was clean, kitchen was well-stocked, and the couch was comfy. The split nature of the house (master suite on the west side of the entry/everything else on the east side) worked out very well for us, as we could keep our dog on the same side of the house as us. The two-zone climate control was also very nice, and the place warmed up fairly quickly. We’ll consider coming back on future trips to Door County!

From the moment we arrived, this cabin exceeded every expectation. Spotlessly clean, wonderfully quiet, and stocked with absolutely everything you could need for a relaxing getaway. The owners have clearly thought of every detail. The beds are incredibly comfortable, the atmosphere is peaceful and restorative, and the hosts were prompt and helpful every step of the way. Our first time in Door County, and this cabin is the ideal home base for experiencing it. We're already looking forward to our next visit!

This was such an amazing stay! Door County is great, and this location was perfectly in the middle of all the things we wanted to do. The house is stunningly beautiful and massive! The owners were great to communicate with and made the whole process so easy. Absolutely love this place and can't wait to come back and stay again!

The house was beautiful, well-stocked with everything one could need, and a very relaxing and peaceful place to return after enjoying the wonderful town of Baileys Harbor as well as the peninsula. The property was The check in process was very easy and smooth. Our host was very accommodating and even checked-in to make sure that everything was fine and that we were comfortable. The house was incredibly clean and decorated with very tasteful and beautiful art. The amount of light that comes in through the many windows is awesome. I would absolutely stay here again, it was just as special as visiting the Door County area. It was even better than the photos and written description listed.

What an amazing weekend spent in Door County! When we booked the house Winding Down months ago, we didn’t know how much we really needed this getaway. The house was beautiful and there wasn’t a thing it didn’t have. The fire-pit provided perfectly roasted marshmallows and smores and the stars were magical. Thank you so much Jim and Ellen! We will be back
