“Excellent hotel, very nice/helpful/considerate staff, location is very convenient to several of the DC main sights, restaurants in the area, two-minute walk to the metro station which also is just across CVS - it was a perfect stay! There's a construction going on but with all the other positive stuff mentioned, it was not a bother at all. Can't wait to go back! The staff was very friendly and supported me throught my 7-night stay. Free breakfast was much better than anticipated, with a wide variety of choices to choose from. Frederick Douglass and his wife bought this house in 1877. Tours are available during the day and are very worthwhile. The visitor center as well as the movie they show are dated but also worthwhile. Frederick was born a slave sometime around 1818 and would go on to become a highly respected abolitionist, newspaper owner/editor, civil rights advocate and staunch advocate for women’s rights. He would die in this home in 1895.
