“10 stars! It was so wonderful to be nestled in this woodland retreat as the forest provided relief from the relentless Heat Wave over 4th of July (250th!) weekend. Also a peaceful escape as it sits fairly far away from the highway and retail areas. The stairs are long, but doable if you aren't carrying much. Colleen is best hostess ever! No, seriously, she IS the best out of ALL my travel stays. Sweet touches and treats everywhere. Definitely coming back here.”

“First there was a refundable fee due at check in that I was not made aware of until AFTER I booked. It was refunded without issue. It was nice to have a physical key for the room instead of electronic. Heavy doors, sturdy stairs. I never heard anyone else while we were there. Location and parking were excellent. The bathroom and room were better in person than photos which was very nice. Owner was friendly, very chatty. I’ve read negative things about his wife- but I had no complaints. She just...

“Place was clean. No problem finding parking nearby, Easy to get into with door code given. Not a lot of restaurants around, but there was a good pizza restaurant/bar nearby. It's a good place to stay if you want to pay less than the hotels in and around downtown Norfolk. Easy to get to Norfolk by car or ferry.”

“Truly an exceptional stay. The treetop is exactly as described. It looks out over the treetops and you can sit on the porch and enjoy the birds and sunset. The interior is chic and comfortable - and we slept soundly in the queen bed. Lisa, the hostess, was wonderful and inviting. I would highly recommend the Treetop.”

“Absolutely recommend the sunset surf shack for a little getaway in OBX. The hosts Amber and Brett have a lovely home and were great with communication and any recommendations that you may need help with during your stay. Local to the beach and with what they offer in allowing use of the bikes for the path or if you want to take a paddle out in the bay they are very kind to offer that. Highly recommend staying again if we get the chance. Thank you again Amber and Brett for having us with you guys...

“Have to go to sister hotels for breakfast, sauna, other amenities. A/C in my room was broken, had to switch rooms. Windows didn’t open in room. Otherwise it was fine and close to beach. Have to pay extra for housekeeping.”

“We didn't end up staying here, we had to get a hotel. This place was gross. Infested with cockroaches and you could see where many of them had been killed on the ceiling and walls, there were splattered bug remains. ”

“We loved our visit! The space is small but it met our needs. We especially appreciated the beach access, made for a lovely weekend. George is a very responsive host, and we were glad that he offered equipment rentals, we took advantage of the canopy rental during our visit. If you’re a light sleeper you may want to bring along ear plugs or noise canceling headphones, as the street noise might keep you up.”
