Hotel a Hillside

“The unit was adequate for a two night stay. Very convenient for early morning boat trip on Doubtful Sound. Beautiful view of lake. Road a stone’s throw in front of unit but not very busy and bedroom was at the rear. Old fashioned interior and furnishings. Plenty of hot water, clean bedding and towels. No television but good WiFi. Overall we felt pricing was a bit on the high side. Parking beside unit. ”

“Awesome place if you’re out these ways. Philippa and Rob are amazing hosts. We got a garden view room with a lovely view. Convenient location. The hosts let us park at theirs while we were on the overnight cruise in Doubtful Sound. Breakfast was included and it was a clocked breakfast. Will definitely stay again”

“Our room was comfortable. We had a suite and there as no TV in the bedroom which would have been more comfy. The bed was comfortable and great to sleep in. The bathroom was good except the shower had a pull around screen instead of a fixed one and we found that once showering the water went everywhere.”

“Very good and tactical accomodation for reaching Milford sound, the area is overall very good. Personnel was very nice and helpful, bedroom comfortable, albeit a bit cold. Good breakfast and parking”

“The room was very clean, the staff were friendly and helpful. Lost one star mostly for the bathroom. The sink was ridiculously tiny and there was no electrical outlet. They have an odd requirement that you have to verbally tell the staff that you want a cooked breakfast the next morning, however, when we rang the bell to tell them the afternoon before no one answered. We then got involved chatting with another guest, which was very nice, but forgot to try the bell again. We had to leave earlier...

“Don’t be put off by the backpacker property, the Lakeview rooms are terrific, very big with a great view and come with a mini fridge and kettle. The amenities are limited, just hand and body wash, and towels are limited, and no servicing, but for the price, the location is excellent, and the Lakeview rooms are totally separate from the backpacker dorms. ”

“Overall acceptable “motel” but probably not worth the value , it’s close to the lake but certainly not to the front. The “front” of the rooms offer fantastic views and sounds from a trafficking road instead. Rooms are pretty old fashioned and the bed was garnished with a brownie fake ( and dusty) fur. Welcoming was excellent though but certainly not sufficient to compensate.”

“Motel is well situated for lake view, and fairly priced in comparison to neighbouring properties. Spa bath was a welcome addition for weary muscles. Ammenities adequate with plenty of kitchen utensils. However layout made cooking and dish-washing tricky. No kitchen table indoor or outdoor so had to use coffee table. While spacious, this aging property is overdue for a refresh. While our information sheet said the units were serviced daily, ours was not, even though we displayed the housekeeping...
