Perfect location to get away and just relax, the wildlife is amazing, plenty of blackberries for the picking, take enough food to last your stay, the kitchen is amazing

Lovely Lavers Hill getaway
Just perfect! We’ll appointed and very comfortable house with a beautiful view! This house was perfect for us and a lovely place to take our friend from England to enjoy some of the local natural attractions. We really enjoyed our stay and can’t wait to return!

Amazing view, cosy wood fire
Our family (5 people over 3 generations) had a relaxed and comfortable stay in this lovely property. On the plus side: the gardens are extensive, great for kids and dogs to roam in. The kitchen is well set up with a good coffee machine and everything you need to make your own meals. Great fireplace in the centre of the main living area - we had three fires even in the middle of Summer (the evenings can get cool.) And the view is the best of all - a sweeping vista down to the sea that's always slowly changing. We saw beautiful clear blue skies and seas on some days, and also misty mornings where visibility was down to 200m or so. Things to consider: there's only one bathroom and toilet - we made this work but occasionally there was a bit of a queue, eg for bed preparations. And also, we found the seating arrangements slightly odd - the sofa's in an awkward place to comfortable watch the (very big) TV - so we ended up moving chairs in front of the TV to watch the Australian Open. And while the view's fabulous, there aren't many places to comfortably enjoy it from (a hedge grows along most of the front balcony at about chest height). From inside the house, you need to be standing at one of the windows to see the view, which felt like a waste/pity. These quibbles aside, we had a great stay and enjoyed the easy access to Melba Falls (just around the corner).

Beautiful vista of nature and wildlife
We loved the central location to explore the Great Ocean Road. Being in the hills was nice. Please note that the closest town is small with one general store with coffee shop and one nice restaurant. So planning most meals while driving is best for this location. House was roomy.

Our Xmas
We had a very different Xmas this year and it was lovely . Relaxing and all we could hear were the bit. Apart from food which we bought in Colac there was everything we needed there Gone Surfing is a wonderful place to relax

Family holiday
We loved the property. The views were amazing. It is a bit of a distance for groceries and premium unleaded petrol so good to come prepared. Lots if things to do in the area. Overall loved it.

Hello Wendy! Yes we are remote. Petrol is available in Yatzies from 8am-4pm - 7 days a week (7 minutes away from house). But Apollo Bay is just 35-40 minutes drive for all supplies if staying longer. Colac about 50 minutes - all shops including Aldi, Bunnings etc. I hope You enjoyed our house. Thank You for leaving it spotless!!!! I hope to see you again! Margaret

Peaceful location
A peaceful location. The Ottways turned on the winter weather & the fire was very welcome. Close to fabulous waterfalls & Ottway rainforest drives. A little drive from the surf coast, but not a hardship considering that gorgeous stretch of coast. Was very hard to find the driveway at night & dangerous trying to turn right back onto GOR - its safer to go left & turn around. I also found it hard to dry the familys clothes after hard muddy days of hiking as there was no dryer ... A comfortable stay, well provisioned.

Hi Angela, Thank You for Your notes. We trying to accommodate our beautiful Guests as good as possible for the cheapest rate we can. That is why we have opted for clothes drying racks (in each bedroom in the robe) rather than dryer which is very expansive to run and not really environmentally friendly as electricity shortage is upon us (not to mention electricity prices). Amazing location & view
This lovely, clean house with an amazing clear views of Cape Otway was only exceeded by the very friendly hosts Margaret & Raf. Their communication was always speedy and helpful - one day the dishwasher broke down - they literally replaced it with a new one the next day! They went above and beyond to make sure we had a relaxing time with our young children. We'll definitely be back!

Great location
Gone surfin' is well located high above the ocean, with great views. The fireplace is amazing. We used it every night as the weather was clear and cool. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment and easy to work in, albeit we had to fiddle with the oven settings a bit! We had lovely drives through the forest and along the coast and did some fabulous walks, all in all a great few days out of the city.

Absolute delight
Communication from owners was fabulous. House was very well maintained and extremely clean. Even though it was summer, heating was required and was easily found in every room, inclusive of the stunning fire place. The views were incredible, we sat out for sunrise with a cup of tea on the lovely balcony. Lots of beautiful birds, including the blue fairy wren. Overall, an outstanding stay, we will recommend and also return. Thank you.

Outstanding property and owner
The property is beautifully located on a hill overlooking the sea in the distance, the house is big, with a fantastic fireplace, 3 great bedrooms, a beautiful garden and all extras you could hope for in the kitchen. Margaret was incredible, she went way out of her way to drop off a big bag of Christmas presents which we had left behind, saving the day with our family in Melbourne!

Something to look forward to
Unfortunately, due to Melbourne's Lockdown No. 6, we haven't actually made it to Gone Surfin yet. However, Margaret has been wonderful in allowing us to reschedule (twice so far) our planned holiday to Lavers Hill. Lavers Hill is, by the way, the perfect location to do all sections of the Great Ocean Walk as day trips! Communication with Margaret has always been quick and easy and we are grateful that we still have this trip to look forward to at the end of the lockdown. Thanks Margaret.

Warm and cosy
Property was well located but the best bit was how warm and cosy the house was on a bitterly cold weekend. When we arrived late afternoon the heaters were on a bottle of wine for us… it felt like home!!!

Love love loved it!!!!
We had the best couple of nights away at Gone Surfin! The property was spotless, the fire so cosy and the views are magnificent! Margaret left us chocolate and some beautiful fresh flowers for our arrival which was a lovely personal touch! The property is secluded but close to the most beautiful coastline and is perfect for a getaway with your pups! We couldn’t get them inside, they loved exploring as the whole place is fenced! We would highly recommend and would love to go back!

New Years in the clouds
I booked this place when it was still lockdown in Melbourne and much in need of a getaway. Luckily we could go in the end and celebrate the end of the year and my birthday at this great house in Lavers Hill. Who would have thought it would be under 20 degrees every day when you book over New Years, but thankfully we had this amazing fireplace to enjoy. The house is equipped with everything you could need. The lawn was great for Finska and Cubb and Lavers Hill has a fun new pub called ‘The Perch’ which I can highly recommend. We also drove an easy drive to 12 Apostles, Apollo Bay, California Redwoods and Melba Gully. This place is the perfect stay and thanks heaps to our excellent hosts for looking after us :)

Easy, well equipped with a great outlook
Process of booking and communication from owners was great. Property was ready early. Nice, simple and easy to navigate property, relaxing outlook and views. Great to just get away and chill or use as a base for Great Ocean Road touring.

Perfect place to explore the Otways
Gone surfin was the perfect property to stay at whilst exploring the Otways. The property had amazing views, beautiful gardens and we loved coming back after a day exploring to the warm log fire.
