I stayed in room 2 which was one of the first as you go across to the rooms, which are in a separate building to the pub. It was enormous and very comfortable. The bathroom was sizeable too, with a large walk in shower. The bed was very comfortable and everything you could need was there (tea and coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board, fan, tv, etc.
The staff were really friendly as were most of their customers, which was nice. I had the Hake in tempura batter with chips and peas and was a bit disappointed. I was expecting a light crispy batter and got a soggy thick blanket of batter that was pretty inedible. The chips were very dry, not overcooked - perhaps the oil was a little too cold for frying. As I was tired and British (a bad combination) of course I didn't say anything, to my shame. I wish that I had gone for the pie as someone had that on another table and it looked delicious and all the reviews rate the food very highly.
I certainly wouldn't let that put me off from staying here again and eating here again (definitely give the pie a go). Breakfast was cooked to order, hot, tasty and plentiful and served by the same lady who was behind the bar the night before! I hope she get some time off during the day!
A lovely pub, full of character, in a lovely location, very comfortable rooms and plenty of parking.
