What do you need in a weekend getaway house; cleanliness and comfort.
My partner and I arrived at the lodge on a Friday night expecting all of the above. When we arrived we were greeted with 2 spiders at the front door, and a park bench covered in filth that we didn’t even want to sit on. We brushed it off since it was only on the outside.
We decided to wash up since it was a long drive. What was in the bathtub? A mixture of dead and alive bugs. One was so big it refused to go down the drain. More just kept coming back, and we had no idea where they were coming from considering all windows were sealed shut. We were also provided with only 2 toilet rolls for a 4-day stay.
Upon close inspection of the bed, there was a mixture of dead and alive bugs. They were spread out as you would expect rose petals on a romantic night. There were also no bed and pillow sheets, just a white blanket and white pillows covered in patches of yellow crusted stains.
When starting to cook dinner, we noticed there was no sink in the kitchen, the sink was actually right next to the toilet. What was in that sink? A mixture of dead and alive bugs. The freezer section of the fridge was also a big disappointment. It was cool enough to maintain little blocks of ice, but not cool enough to maintain our ice cream. The ice cream became very very soft and somewhat melted. I don't even know how this is even possible.
The back veranda was advertised as a relaxing outpost where you could sit and chill on a summers night. The door and porch seatings were unusable as they were covered in spider webs and spiders. Not to mention, there was a foul smell constantly flowing from the back, as if there was a dead body buried somewhere.
We spent the entire first night, driving down to the local IGA to buy cleaning appliances and more toilet rolls. We then worked on the lodge for the night like cleaning maids, just how you would like to start your get away.
We also noticed the light being very dimmed (as opposed to the photo advertised, showing the room as being extremely bright) and we figured they may have purposely done this so we cannot see all the insects around the cabin.
