“The number 1 thing in my book is location. It's located right on the beach a small walk down some stairs not belonging to the hotel that are a bit slippery because of the sand that's built up on them. The facility is absolutely beautiful and clean. The employees at the hotel care about the guest and go above and beyond. The pool are is a little bit small but that's ok if you get your chaise lounger early. The food is exceptionally good however a portion of the menu is made by a local restaurant...

“The room was clean, the grounds are beautiful and look to be well cared for. The staff were accommodating and supported an early check in with ease. We never had an opportunity to try the restaurant. However, the service and the drinks in the lounge were great! Thank you Catamaran for making our little getaway great! ”

“Very friendly staff! So grateful they were flexible with check-in as my flight got delayed. Big kitchen; bagels and cream cheese for breakfast. Note that there is only one bathroom (shower included, so it's not possible to have one person shower while another uses the bathroom) for the dorm of 14 people. I never had an issue conflicting with anybody, but just know that there's only one bathroom. There are 2 sinks outside the bathroom, though.”

“Place is dated. No elevator working, so we had to carry luggage upstairs. Pickleball courts were packed, so we were not able to play. ”

“The Surfer has a fantastic location! It was decorated spartan to say the least. Definitely a "no frills" place with a great view. Aidin at the front desk was very helpful and the best desk person I've ever met in making suggestions and being accommodating. Price is steep for what it is, but again, you're on the beach in San Diego!”

“We had a partial ocean view room. It was very nice. Very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. There are blow dyers in the room, but, no iron. You're able to check out beach chairs and towels. I feel like the only thing lacking was an ice machine”
