I spent some time looking for a house in Positano, near the beach and town, where I could host my family and a few friends for two weeks. Villa Olimpia was the only place that fit the bill. I was a little suspicious before arriving since the pictures and descriptions were almost too perfect. To my surprise the house exceeded my expectations. The house has four bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a very functional kitchen, a dining room and living room. We spent most of our time in the open air, but shaded, terrace. We also used the pool a lot. There is also beautiful gardens on the property, as well as a very friendly marmalade cat that my daughter called Rigatoni (my 20 month old grand daughter called it "Toni"). Maria Teresa is the property manager and she was extremely friendly, competent and helpful, arranging car trips, advice, etc.
A few caveats: There is parking available, but it is a few hundred meters away, and costs 50 euro's a day.I strongly advise against bringing a car. Driving here is not for the faint hearted and it is probably cheaper to hire cars when needed.
Also the house is half way up steep steps. If you are really out of shape or have some mobility issues, this is not for you. But if that is the case Positano is not for you since it is a town on a very steep hill. The good news is that after two weeks I was very fit. Every morning I would walk down to Fornillo Beach at 7am, swim for 30 minutes, sneak an outdoor shower at Pulpetto Hotel and then charge up the steep steps. Not bad for a 62 year old with an artificial knee! I could then drink a lot of wine, eat a lot of great food with a clear conscience.
