“The room, bathroom, AND the shower are probably the biggest of all the hotels where we’ve stayed in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto.
Did not feel cramped whatsoever.
The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Just a short walk to the Arashiyama bamboo forest. The location is perfect if you plan to visit the surrounding areas there”

“Small property but packs a punch. Offered a refreshing tea upon arrival. Close to the bamboo forest, but you can the escape the hustle and bustle of the sea of tourists. Rooms and clean and tidy. And very large! Would stay there again for sure.”

“We had a lovely stay here during our 3-week honeymoon in Japan. It is a glamping experience…. no tents though.
Your room is in pre-fabricated units. It features big glass windows that open up wide to enjoy your outdoor surroundings, but also close up with complete privacy. Each unit has an excellent shower, with toilet and wash area. There is also climate control for each unit. There is no TV, but who needs it?!
Of the 5 places we stayed, please note that this room was the largest room…. by...

“Kenji was a very nice host and his "guest house English" speaking was wonderful!! It is a perfect location if you are looking to wake up early and walk to the bamboo forest, you can be one of the first people there. Kenji also gave us recommendations of places to visit in the area that you otherwise may not have known about. ”

“The host was amazing. He contacted us to see what time to expect us. Whenever we walked up he was at the door to welcome us and show us around. We loved everything about our stay. Now understand that this is a traditional Japanese home. My family enjoyed the experience. We were a nice 15 minute walk to the bamboo Forest, a short walk to several dining options, cafe for coffee and a Lawson for convenience. We loved getting out of the hustle and bustle of the big cities for the night. I wish we...

“Molto grazioso, eccellente la cucina kaiseki. Cena da provare! Comoda la posizione, 30' di taxi falla stazione centrale, altra stazioncina vicinissima. Foresta di bambù a due passi e, se avete fortuna, in agosto c'è il Daimonji Fire Festival, molto suggestivo.”

“If you want to experience traditional ryokan with fabulous meals, this is the place for you. It is a bit dated like visiting your relative’s house in the small town. It’s surrounded by maple forest, like living in a nice cabin. This is not modern hotel, if you set your expectation right, you will not be disappointed. All the stuffs are so kind and warm. They are great people dedicated to their jobs and it makes me want to visit Kyoto again.”

“There are so many cute little touches to this hotel! In our room, there is a beautiful rice crackers package and a handmade folded crane for good luck! When at the front desk there was yummy mochi for guests to try! Oishii! So good! There is a dining area on the left you can sit and drink ice water and hot tea if you are staying at the hotel. The staff is so friendly! They carried our luggage to our room before we checked in at 2pm! We did drop our luggage at 11am and went adventuring! There is...

“I have never stayed in a hostel before, so I was filled with trepidation about what the atmosphere would be like.
I need not have worried, Mulan Hostel was perfect, spotlessly clean, modern throughout. A quiet and peaceful sanctuary. Mulan Hostel has set the bar very high, fantastic!! Thank you.”

“Mulan Hostel was wonderful. I came a little close to 9pm but they greeted me with such warmth and care. The dorm bed was comfortable and very nice. I loved the amenities and hot shower.
The area is perfect for seeing sights and also the bus stops right in front of the Hostel. The train was a 20min walk which is lovely in the Spring.
I would love to stay more nights in the future .”

“My stay was great, but I don’t recommend the dinner. For how expensive it is, I was expecting the quality of the food to be much superior. It was not, go have dinner elsewhere.”

“This hotel was truly the highlight of our trip! My husband and I visited for our honeymoon and the staff went out of their way to upgrade us to the nicest suite in the hotel. This gesture was something we will never forget and made our trip beyond memorable. Special shout out to Nana, Aina, Mai and Yoshi for going the extra mile and making our experience that much more special and memorable. We will never forget this staff and the things they did to make us feel so special. ”

“The room was within walking distance from the bamboo forest and local restaurants. It was hard to find dining at night because some restaurants close early and you have to cross bridge to search for other restaurants. Too many gnats flying around. Gnats were also in the rooms. The staff were really nice and very helpful and patient.”

“On our recent trip to Japan we wanted an authentic experience staying in a ryokan.
We were greeted by an extremely attentive staff who whisked our luggage away to our mountain view room. We received hotel slippers and were given a tour of the hotel. Our modest room had a low table and chairs with a tea service, a private bathroom, tatami mat floor and yukata robes. We had 3 hours until dinner so we enjoyed the private onsen nestled in the forest overlooking the forest. For ¥4000 ($27) this...

“The Ranzan Hotel is located in a great walkable section of Kyoto. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The room is clean, but the bathroom fixtures are dated. The air conditioner had a hard time keeping the room cool during the heatwave.”

“La fermata dell’ autobus è a due passi, un po’ distante dal centro ma grazie ad i mezzi pubblici non ci sono problemi.Il personale è gentile, ci ha offerto gli asciugamani tornati dal giro quotidiano per farci asciugare dalla pioggia... ci ha tenuto le valigie prima del check inn e le abbiamo ritrovate in camera ben sistemate. Bagni puliti, Wi-Fi buona, stanza fumatori. Bene in generale.”

“Nel nostro viaggio in Giappone non potevamo farci mancare l’esperienza di una notte in un ryokan e siamo rimasti veramente contenti della nostra scelta.
La stanza era spaziosa e confortevole, con una meravigliosa vista sul giardino. I bagni (in comune) erano puliti.
Ottimo il cibo: sushi per i bambini mentre per noi adulti è stata l’occasione di provare una squisita cena kaiseki ad un prezzo ragionevole. Anche la colazione (giapponese per noi e occidentale per i bimbi) era veramente...
