Phyllis Court has a spectacular location alongside the Thames. The squabbling geese and rowing coaches loudspeakers are clearly audible at night. The sprawling property offers every conceivable outlet for the energetic, the literary, the hungry and the thirsty. The staff are the perfect combination of warm and professional.
My only gripes would be firstly that it is a little tired and grubby around the edges. The corners of the bathroom featured peeling mouldy silicone, little piles of dirt and hair where the mop clearly did not easily reach and the toilet had clear splatters of previous usage.
Secondly, the environmental credentials are disappointing. Virtually every room had the heating at full with a window gaping open, the tap in our room was hard to stop dripping and the loos downstairs had a number of gushing toilets that clearly had not been maintained. The heating and water bills here must be astronomical an they clearly don't need to be.
Overall, it is a lovely property with great staff and a few, easily fixable frustrations.
