The Space:

The River Retreat - Off the Grid offers a unique place to stay that delivers an authentic kiwi experience and a chance to disconnect from life pressures and enjoy the beauty of your natural surroundings. Nestled among a deer farm and elevated overlooking the river, this charming eco-friendly holiday accommodation is not for the faint-hearted. Guests are encouraged to switch off completely and experience a truly unique property powered solely by solar energy, ensuring a fully off-the-grid experience with charming cabins and a wonderful sense of isolation.



The main cabin features basic cooking facilities, including a gas cooktop and a small gas-operated fridge for your basic supplies. A BBQ is also provided for outdoor cooking. The spacious combined dining and living area allows guests to relax and enjoy the surroundings, opening to the outdoors through large barn doors. Downstairs accommodates four guests with a comfortable queen bed and two single beds.

The River Retreat is situated on the outskirts of Inglewood, just a five-minute drive from specialty shops, restaurants, cafes, and the local supermarket for basic supplies. The charming rural town of Inglewood is surrounded by the vibrant greenness of Taranaki pastureland, just below the forested fringe of Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki (formerly known as Egmont National Park). The Visitors Centre is a 10-minute drive away for those keen on trampers, and it is only a 15-minute drive to New Plymouth.



Bookings that exceed 10 days will incur an extra mid-term cleaning and linen fee at cost to the guest every seven days.
