“Comfy place to stay ”

“This was our 3rd visit to The Inn at South Stainley. We had 4 days and 3 nights and again we enjoyed ourselves. We had our dinner for 3 nights at The Inn which were filling and excellent. Likewise can be said for the breakfast we also had. The room we stayed in was in premises alongside The Inn which was of a high standard and serviced daily. Hopefully we will be back. Thanks”

“This is a wonderful guesthouse. The location was ideal for us less than a 10 minute walk into the town centre. The room was very comfortable with fantastic tea and coffee facilities. It was quiet and well decorated. We parked on the road outside the guesthouse and were provided with a permit that was valid until midday. There is a wonderful café just across the road that is well worth visiting as well.”

“Our booking was made in February 2026 and we arrived to find we were not staying in the hotel but in an adjacent building 100 yards away which housed apartments. The weekend was to celebrate my 80th birthday and luckily I am sufficiently agile to overcome the steps getting into the apartment. It could possibly have been more convenient and cheaper to have booked a nearby travel lodge.”

“The room was clean, with a few small rubbish from previous guest. The room itself is quite dated, but that is the nature of the building. The staff were excellent, very welcoming and cheerful. They deserve great praise. Wifi was reliable. The breakfast was tasty and a classic full English breakfast. Coffee machines provided tasty coffee too.”

“The room is very spacious and clean”

“The property itself was well presented and clean, and the room was also clean on arrival. However, we had booked a "Luxury King Room" and felt the description was somewhat misleading. The bed was actually a double rather than a king-size bed (which I later noticed is stated in the room details), so the room name itself felt confusing. I’d also say the "luxury" description was an overstatement, as the room felt more basic/average than expected. Unfortunately, we had quite a poor night's sleep....

“Good location and quick check in. Room was comfortable. Shower quite small but okay for a couple of nights, loo paper supplied was very poor quality”

“Had to cancel our trip due to a medical emergency and flight cancellation. Contacted all hotels we had booked—five refunded us without issue. Even Ryanair did. Cairn Hotel was the only one that flat-out refused, no empathy, no flexibility, not even a partial credit. I explained everything, even pleaded—but they just hid behind their “policy.” I could’ve paid more for the flexible rate, but budget was tight. Shame, because we were really looking forward to staying. Very disappointing experience.”

“The property is conveniently near the city center, clean, well-maintained, and reasonably priced—basically ticking all the important boxes. The bathroom and toilet are en-suite… with a bold, open-plan concept (no door), which may surprise you at first, but you quickly adapt and start questioning why doors were ever invented. The owner is friendly, helpful, and professional—exactly the kind of person you hope to meet after a long trip. The kitchen doesn’t have a microwave, so no late-night...

“A magnificent Victorian building in pristine condition. All aspects of this hotel were excellent. The staff are all pleasant and helpful. The food was very good. A tasty evening menu was really enjoyable Breakfast very good also. We reall enjoyed our stay and will be back”
