Nice staying in Sydney

The Occidental Hotel is located in the centre of Sydney. In spite of this, it is very quiet and offers everything is necessary for a comfortable staying. The staff is very helpful.

Central location. Good value. Staff were helpful. Main downside is the street noise. This is an old building with poorly sealed single glazed windows in a busy area day and night. If you can live with that then i would recommend.

The hotel doesn’t really have a reception so be aware when checking in. We had to go to the bar to find someone which is slightly unusual. Even though it is above a bar it was quiet and did have a lift. There was also luggage storage which was great.

This is in a good location in Sydney and a very cheap price, note the bathrooms are shared which was ok for me. Good for those who want a roof over their heads and nothing more. I would stay here again, the pub downstairs has a good happy hour and dinner specials every night

Great location and a very charming building and pub. Staff were friendly and professional, also we were able to store our bags after check out so we could get out & about before heading to the airport. Good value for money. If I stay again I would just bring some ear plugs as the street can be quite noisy throughout the night (not from patrons but vehicles etc).

So noisy - it’s as if the walls were made from paper. I could hear everything going on in the rooms either side of me. Even when the kettle was switched on I heard it. Could hear the people in the next rooms breathing and that wasn’t even snoring. It was like they were in the same room

Gute Lage im CBD und in der Nähe vieler ÖNV Verbindungen. Es ist ein Pub-Hotel, d.h. ein Pub mit Zimmern darüber und Toiletten und Duschen auf dem Flur. Es gibt keine Rezeption oder Gästeservice. Das Zimmer hat eine Old World Charme, den ich sehr schön fand, mit dunklem Holz und netten Details wie einem mit weißer Decke gedeckten Teetisch.

Room a bit spartan and carpet a bit threadbare but all very clean and lovely bathroom. Kettle was a big plus and there was also a microwave and fridge with milk for our tea. Very convenient for Wynyard station trains to Circular Quay and direct to Airport. Easy with luggage.

The room was perfect, tea/coffee making facilities, tv, fridge, microwave and a sink in the bedroom. Was in easy walking distance of most tourist attractions and transport connections. Would highly recommend the Occidental hotel to anyone!!!

This was a good place to stay for a short amount of time. Our room was clean, supplied with a fridge, table, 2 chairs & 3 beds which we did not need, but would be great for a family. it was a corner unit right on York Street, so we were thankful that we travel with earplugs. Beds were comfortable, pillows not so much as they are “pitiful”. We had a private bathroom in our room which was great. We were only given 2 large towels when we first arrived and then the next day we had a hand towel and a bath mat appear. Close to everything we needed to make our trip enjoyable. It is an old hotel on a very busy road in the CBD & it is also a very popular hotel when work is done, so people spill out onto the sidewalks and they stay late. The price was the main draw and overall you get what you pay for.

Great place to stay. Bathrooms shared and clean. Room clean. Staff friendly. Held our bags before checkin so we could wander. Easy checkout. There will be noise because it's above a pub. AC was great white noise. Great location as a jump spot for touristy things. Reasonable price. Expect these things and it's a 5 star experience.

It looked like an older hotel. There is no hotel staff onsite so if you need assistance (like lost keys, wifi password, etc) you might be out of luck. They have two phone numbers on the door to call for assistance but it might be a problem if you try using a cell phone from another country. I rented one of the cheaper rooms -- it had no private shower/toilet. You essentially have to share the toilet and shower with everyone else on the floor but they were clean and functional. It is satisfactory if the price is low. No complaints since I was doing this cheap on peak season.

The room was spacious and clean. The shared bathroom was always clean. Tea & coffee in the room was nice to have. We arrived on January 1st (holiday) & the bar (where we were to check in) was closed. No clear communication how to check in on a holiday. There was a phone # on the door that we were able to contact someone & we got let in. The staff were great - very friendly.

We have stayed here before without issue however this stay was absolutely terrible. Our first night we got very little if any sleep as the window was banging back and forth with each passing vehicle. Called the after hours number and was given a piece of cardboard to stuff in the window. The second night was even worse. 4 pieces of cardboard did not slow the banging window and to add to our frustration there was no hot water for a shower despite running the water for about 20 min. We called at checkout and voiced our displeasure. The gentleman said he couldn’t do anything for us but would have the manager reach out via a phone call. That was Tuesday, when Sunday came, no call. I called again and the lady I spoke to was aware of our complaints and was surprised the manager had not contacted me. She asked me to go through Expedia and complain but I told her the only option with Expedia would be a negative review and I didn’t want to leave one without first talking to the manager and making her aware of our terrible stay. She said she would have her call but not to expect to hear from her until Tuesday. Well shortly after hanging up the manager called. The conversation did not go well at all. She started accusing me of threatening them with a negative review and trying to hold them hostage. I hadn’t even asked for anything and in all honesty I wasn’t looking for anything except recognition of our issues and a promise they would attempt to fix them so nobody else would encounter
