The owner tried to disguise the smell with air fresheners and by leaving the windows open but the smell of damp was still immediately apparent on entry. Had we been staying longer than 2 nights and not arrived so late in the evening on the first night we would have left. “High Ridge is perfectly situated right in the middle of Ambleside. However, it really does need some TLC. There are damp patches on the walls , the bed linen is rather questionable, & the window blinds are just simply dreadful . They let light in, don’t work properly & are very tatty indeed. The furnishings are of poor quality & there are just far too many dreadful pictures on the walls. The kitchen & bathroom are good but the rest of the property needs a jolly good face lift .
