Beautiful Cozy, ultra-convenient Salem home is close and within walking distance to all tourist sites and entertainment in Salem, MA...You can walk to to all the Salem historic sites as well as all the restaurants and entertainment destinations...The house is also in walking distance or a 2-minute Uber ride to Salem Train Station if you feel like heading 20 minutes South to Boston or 20 minutes North to the Beach areas of Gloucester or Newburyport and Rockport ......The house is very quaint and cozy and provides a tranquil environment while visiting the area....The house has 4 Bedroom areas and provides plenty of comfortable sleeping areas if traveling with family......When the weather is nice you can also relax in the beautiful backyard and deck area.....The house also has a full laundry area....The house is the perfect oasis when traveling with friends or family..!!

Owner canceled hours before check-in. Wanted me to switch to a 2 bedroom condo with an air mattress. There was no way 7 of us was gonna fit in there with 1 bathroom. I traveled from Virginia only to have to get refunded and find a hotel. I would give 0 stars if I could.

Owner cancelled at last minute

We never stayed at the property. I had co ya Ted the owner multiple times day prior asking for check in details with no response. Then shortly before noon on our arrival day I received notification that there was a maintenance issue and they could accommodate us in Boston near the airport. I had to scramble to find another location in Salem itself as Boston was not acceptable. The trip was a gift to my graduating niece who had her heart set in Salem. I realize issues happen and had I received good communication would have taken it in stride. This left me v disappointed in VRBO.

Absolutely Appalling Experience- Beware of this Host!!

My first experience with VRBO was an unmitigated disaster, and it's solely due to this host's deceptive practices and the deplorable condition of the alternate property we were forced into.I initially booked a 4-bedroom home in Salem, Massachusetts, specifically choosing that location for our trip. Day of arrival, I received an email informing me the Salem property was "double-booked" and we'd be moved to a condo in a completely different city – Boston. My consent for this move was never requested or given. Had I known we'd be staying in a major city, I would never have booked this listing.Upon arriving in Salem at 8 PM, the "double-booked" home appeared empty, making me question the host's claim. We then had to drive in the opposite direction, arriving late at the alternate Boston condo. What we found was shocking and completely unacceptable:Misrepresented Property: The condo bore no resemblance to the 4-bedroom home we booked. It was furnished with ripped furniture and only futon-style beds.Filthy Conditions: There were bugs on the floor, making the space feel unsanitary.Safety Concerns: We were forced to park four blocks away in a Boston neighborhood, I had to leave two teenage girls on the side of the road with our luggage – a truly unsafe and terrifying situation.This host's actions, from the unconsented property swap to the horrific conditions and safety risks at the alternate location, are a direct violation of VRBO's policies and basic hospitality standards.

Don’t book this house!

Before our trip began, I tried numerous times to contact the owner to get the entry code into the house. My family and I flew to Boston the day we were to begin the rental and we still had not heard back from the owner. I was in a panic! we were standing in line to get our rental car when we received a text from VRBO saying our reservation had been canceled. The text was three hours before check-in! That was downright dirty!

Weekend Trip

Neighborhood felt safe and off street parking for two cars was great! Not enough towels in bathrooms or kitchen and oven took an eternity to preheat. Sofa bed in basement does not fold down, so only able to sleep one person. Location is just short of two miles from MBTA stop, so you'll want to plan accordingly. We didn't spend a ton of time at the house, but it served its purpose as a place to sleep when spending time in Boston over a long weekend!

the house has some misleading photos online vs what it looks like in person- there are some different couches, etc pictured. then there are the pictures of what the property actually looks like as well. this wasn’t a big deal but just made the listing a bit inaccurate. they also mentioned having a hair dryer for guest use on the property, and did not have one. the neighborhood was nice, it was very quiet and felt very safe. the heating was working when we arrived, then by the next morning it was off. we did not have heat for 2 days of our stay.

Bait and switch

The night before our flight to Boston, the owner messaged me to let me know he double booked the property. He assured me he found a comparable property so I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. The new property was no where near the original, was a small apartment instead of an entire house, there was not adequate sitting or sleeping space and instead of a 4 bedroom house we had one bed and a pull out couch. There was limited street parking instead of a driveway. Once we were given access to the “new lodging” the owner ghosted me the rest of the weekend. The host was John b Michaels with the Suffolk hospitality group. Fortunately I contacted Vrbo directly and they found us alternate lodging and were very accommodating. Do not book with this host!!!

Terrible!

The house itself was okay. We spent the day around Salem shopping, etc. We came back to NO electricity! Not to mention the house smelled like gas. We checked out of the house and had to find another place to stay. I talked to the peoperty manager who assured me I would receive a credit. That was Oct 1 2024. As if today I have still not received it. This place is ran horrible. I have tried emailing and calling. WHEN they answer me I am promised the credit. Talked to VRBO they have been NO help! I feel like I am being bullied and have been taken advantage of. Horrible. The owner owed over $700 back electricity. Suffolk Realty Group should be ashamed and VRBO should be ashamed! assured ne i would

Late October family stay in Salem

Overall the house was fine. The location was perfect (close to Salem, but the neighborhood was quiet) and the beds were super comfortable. My recommendations would be to have a tv in the first floor living area and tvs in the bedrooms as well. Also some kind of curtain or frosted glass in the upstairs bathroom for privacy, since it looks right out onto the Salem State fields.

DO NOT STAY HERE

We drove all day to check in and get some rest. We were asked what time we expected to arrive. We said 5ish (check in time was 3). They said “Perfect”. When we arrived the place had not been cleaned from the previous tenants. Garbage, wet towels, dirty dishes, beds not changed…NOTHING. House cleaner showed up AFTER and told us to have a seat while she cleaned! Uh no! We left and went to a hotel. We cannot get a response now from the host. VRBO has been contacted.

Great vacation

Loved the house except for a few minor things. 1) please add tvs to more rooms than just the 1. We had 5 people fighting over it lol 2) please add more washcloths, 2 wasn’t enough for a family of 5. 3) please add a way to watch tv streaming services, we went and bought a Roku to use while there. Besides that, the house was great and in good condition, the beds and pillows were great, location was amazing, ease of checking in was perfect. Definitely would stay again!

Great size house for family of 7

4 adults, 3 children very comfortable staying at this house. We enjoyed sitting on the back patio and relaxing in the morning and afternoons. Convenient location. No issues.

Excellent

We enjoyed our stay very much! The location of the home is perfect, especially if you plan to walk to downtown Salem or drive to the train station. It is close to Salem University which is beautiful too. There is a pharmacy nearby, also within walking distance. You may wish to bring additional pans and utensils as we did. Everything in the house worked well, we did not need to communicate with the owner during our stay. The neighbourhood is very quiet too.

The house was in a decent location, but certainly not “ultra convenient,” nor was it beautiful or cozy as described. The owner is a property manager and was kind in his correspondence (which occurred via text and not through VRBO), however the day prior to our arrival I sent a message to the host through VRBO requesting details about check-in and did not hear anything back until about 4 hours before we could check in. We honestly thought we were going to need to find alternative options. It was confusing to us that we heard from him directly instead of through VRBO correspondence, but frankly we were just glad to hear back and check in was simple. The home is quaint and seemingly in a safe enough neighborhood, however it was quite dirty with very old looking stained carpet and a foul smell that lingered on our belongings well after we left. The A/C unit did not work properly in one of the bedrooms and there were no blinds or curtains in the upstairs bathroom so anyone could see in from outside. As a family of 5 we hoped the home would be a place we would enjoy spending time together in, but we felt uncomfortable being there. Overall, not a great experience.

No frills but great location

The property is located in a great area, but it needs some love. It looks like someone moved out and took everything but the furniture and towels. It isn’t stocked with anything but the bare minimum. The bedrooms are good but the pull out couch is in the basement and it smells and feels like a basement. There is only one tv that is also in the basement.

The biggest issue I have is that the house does not have enough kitchen utensils to make a meal. We had to go buy pans to cook in the oven. But it wasn’t a huge deal.

Inaccurate description. Needs TLC and better communication from management

Place looked cute in pics but looked pretty different when we got there. Many pics taken off of walls, different furniture, no plants anywhere. The place almost looked like it was abandoned and definitely needs a deep clean. No AC in downstairs bedroom and AC kept shutting off in one of the upstairs bedrooms. TV in basement was virtually useless unless you can log into your own Netflix account. On top of that, management gives no check out instructions. I requested them, they said they'd send them and didn't. Sent a message asking for them again this morning and didn't get a response. The house was overall cute, just very much lived in with dust and dirt, scratches and dings in the walls. The deck and string lights were really cute, bed was cozy, but sadly I don't think I'll be back due to the disappointment with my experience
