Two things were significantly off from my expectations:
1. The major issue was that the staff told me the Onsen was “for Japanese only”. As a white 47 year old male, I’ve finally managed to get to a point where I can say I was discriminated against based on my race, and as it was available to non-Japanese women (the staff offered it to my British Mother), also my gender. Welcome to 2025 I guess!
2. The second issue, was that when we booked on August 4th, 2025, the Expedia page specifically said that the pool would be available after July 31st, 2025. We arrived on August 5th, 2025 and the pool was not available (out of service). We spent time on the 4th buying bathing suits in Tokyo looking forward to using the facilities. I guess we will take several expensive, unused bathing suits back to the US.
I know in the big picture, both of these are just gripes, but the property was a premium option, and otherwise as expected. The unexpected racism kinda threw me off!
