First, I'd have to say that the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract is just a beautiful hotel. Maybe the best views in all of Aswan. With that being said, the service and experience was not 5-star. Check-in was a bit awkward. I was working remotely during my stay and the wi-fi was inconsistent, the child seats need to be replaced and some meals were flavorless. Overall, some of the staff just need better training and general ettiqutte to work within the tourism industry. Some staff assumed that because we could "pass as local", or, don't look like their typical guests they serve, that that somehow invalidated our right to a 5-star experience. It hurts because you see other guests who look different receiving 5-star service that matches thr aesthetic of the hotel. I do commend management for trying to resolve some issues we had, because they did to a degree. We even got complimentary 5 hour extension on our stay and dinner was covered on the 3rd night. However, in the unlikely event that we return to Egypt, it won't be at the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract.
