“While we were only there for one night it was a treat to be able to have gotten one of the few rooms within the castle itself. The staff were very attentive and helpful. The food was delicious and they were very accommodating to my husband's dietary limitations. The only thing they forgot was having my bear knight and chocolates ready in my room but that's just a minor thing and I did ask for it just the day before so not a big deal once I asked.”

“The place is an ancient inn in a wonderful spot of the countryside. Perfect for trips along Hadrian's wall or nice walks in the fields. No restaurants in the area except the inn's one, where it's possibile to eat until 8.30 pm. Excellent beer until late. The toilet area is really tiny, but the rooms are lovely.”

The portions were generous, and the food was of a very high standard. We stayed in the family room and, unfortunately, there was a noticeable iron burn mark in the middle of the carpet. “No evening meal due to chef needing time off, staff seemed to have no idea what was happening. Only food available in the area was pizza at a hostel across the road. Breakfast room opened at 8:30 and consisted of help yourself Coco pops, croissants or toast, if you had an early start, nothing. Overall a very poor experience.”

“This was a charming place to stay. There were sheep in the field outside our window. There were cookies and tea things in our room. There was a nice common room/library with lots of maps and guide books. We had a delicious full Scottish breakfast in the morning. We'd love to stay there again!”

“We only stayed for one night. The contact to the Premier Inn before our arrival was very good. When we arrived the receptionist was welcoming and very friendly!!! Just a different receptionist on the following morning wasn't really friendly. Otherwise we had a good experience with this hotel.”

“Room was fine, tea and coffee wasn't very nice and no complementary biscuits. No magnifying mirror in the bathroom. States Brompton however 8 miles away. Bed was really uncomfortable. Evening meal was nice, 10% surcharge on you bill! Wine expenses! Breakfast was so so. Waited a long time for someone to come to the checkin fest on arrival and departure. Probably would try an alternative hotel ”
