We stayed at Almare to ring in 2026. The positives: most of the staff were very kind and genuinely tried to be helpful. Only one employee we encountered was rude & disgruntled. The resort grounds were small, but clean and well maintained, with nice furniture throughout. Breakfast at BOGA Café was enjoyable, and the beach area itself was nice.
The negatives: we felt the main issue was severe understaffing. Having stayed at Four Seasons and other true 5-star properties, this resort did not meet 5-star standards and was not luxurious, as advertised. The room was mediocre, with paper-thin walls and confusing light switches. It was nearly impossible to reach the front desk, housekeeping, or in-room dining by phone. One day, we waited an hour for towels after housekeeping forgot to replace them.
Food options were very limited and inconsistent, often feeling overly focused on gastronomy at the expense of taste and enjoyment. A few simple, reliable options would have been nice. On several occasions, the café was either closed or had only a couple of items available. Dinner on the rooftop was especially frustrating—one night we spent 2.5 hours mostly waiting for food and trying to get the attention of the only server. The pool water was freezing, and we were told the heater was broken. Additionally, the private boat transfer from Cancun that was advertised, was unavailable, though the resort did coordinate and cover the cost of a taxi and ferry.
