“Fantastic visit to this hotel. Room was lovely and clean, comfy bed, nice towels and even had toiletries. Nice decent sized tv and great variety of teas and coffees. We took our dog Barney and he was made very welcome, even getting a welcome pack. It contain 2 chews, a ball and a poop bag. There were even dog biscuits on the bar for a donation to charity. The bar was nice and with plenty of tables and drinks. A lovely log burner which Barney loved. Fresh bowls of water for him too. We went...

“Lovely hôtel - perfect for Lake Windermere. Facilities in the hotel are great: there are even wellingtons you can borrow to do a woodland walk. The restaurant is fantastic with high quality food. The lounge and reception area have wonderful open fires which make it feel really cosy. Our feature room was fantastic and roomy.”

“The Tool Inn is a very cosy place, it has a pub downstairs, and the breakfast is top! I strongly recommend it. The only problem is that the walls are not very thick so it is easy to hear noise from other rooms.”

“Food and service excellent. Choice of menu options really good. Rooms good size, bed comfortable, fridge in room with bottles water, plenty of tea, coffee etc in the room. Very convenient from the motorway but away from the road noise. Local walk details provided in the rooms. ”

“A great hotel in a good location close to the sea with an excellent beer garden backing onto the canal. Fantastic food let down by a slow service between courses. The room was clean and comfortable although the extractor fan for the kitchen was directly outside the windows. Easy access for those who needed to leave early with a key dropbox and friendly efficient staff on reception and behind the bar. “This is the second time we've stayed at the Mason Freehouse, it was lovely the first time we stayed, which made us keen to return. Although it is now under new management, it's clear that the lovely, friendly, warm welcoming atmosphere is something the staff are keen to retain. We're looking forward to coming back and staying again, as the plans for new menus sound fantastic. Room sizes and facilities are very adequate for a short stay. “Wonderful stay here, much better than I could have anticipated. The staff are lovely and there's nothing they can't do for you. Worth noting, we travelled when the weather conditions turned horrific with the snow. This venue has a lot of travellers stranded and opened up their function room to help those stranded (all rooms were booked) - absolutely wonderful to see as they more than extended their hospitality and they should be commended for that. ”
