“Loved staying in a home built in 1901, with the furnishings reflecting the era. Lorraine and Greg were great hosts and directed us to many sight worthy destinations. So nice to join other travelers around the delicious breakfast table.”

“A character home with very no actual character beyond the first impression when entering the main doors. We stayed in the Bell Island Suite, which in no way felt like a suite. It felt more like a dated cottage or camp cabin. The room was tired and poorly maintained, with no consistent style or attention to detail. Issues included missing drawer knobs, mismatched hardware, peeling paint on the shower ceiling, cracked bathroom floor tiles, poor ventilation causing slippery floors, worn furniture,...

“Beware that the ratings for the Duckworth are relevant to the bar/pub and not to the accommodation. The accommodation is very poor and in desperate need of modernisation - which they say is happening…”

“We were pretty disappointed with the service at the Bistro. It took far too long to get our breakfast, the kitchen seemed unable to meet the requests of the guests in an efficient manner & were running out of key ingredients. We asked for brown bread which they were out of, then it was sausage & bacon, then they couldn't find the decaf coffee, they were out of fruit, etc., etc. The key pads to the room would work one minute then not the next minute.”

“Lovely staff and a great location - an old and characterful building in a perfect location to enjoy St John’s. Unfortunately, roof seems to be leaking somewhere in the building and had a small ceiling cave in in my room. Staff were great and gave me a bucket to collect the water.. That aside, nice cozy room close to bars and restaurants”

“Great stay. Petty Harbour room with private bathroom. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Loved the private bathroom with shower and Native brand shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Breakfast was a definite highlight during which the owner Rob offered recommendations and advice on the local sites, stories, and jokes a plenty. Fantastic location. Would absolutely stay again.”
