This is a small, simple, elegant hotel, very well cared for by a devoted team. Casa Altamar has personality, nice design, beautiful wood finishing/furniture, woven rugs and lampshades, it feels connected to the location. The place is spotless, rooms are cleaned every day. The landscaping is naturalistic and very well done, exotic flowers and palms moving in the breeze. It’s also very functional, the windows have insect screens, it’s air conditioned, there’s a place to wash off sand by the doors. The water for food prep and drinking is purified, coffee, juice and fruit is freely available in the morning. This made me feel almost like a guest in a private home. The location is a 15 minute taxi ride from Tulum town, right on the beach, which is edged with palm trees. We swam every day in the warm sea, saw fishes and a manta ray. You can walk for hours along the beach. The staff here are very special and there is a happy vibe, the restaurant has a terrace with a sea view where you can hang out and enjoy freshly prepared delicious food. Sad to leave! Kudos to Arturo, Amin, John, Diane, Javier and all the staff. Tip: bring water shoes as there are some rocks getting into the sea. Also, you can get a collectiva bus into Tulum for about 35 pesos if you want to party or try other restaurants.
